CMS days off for the rest of 2026-27
These are the days off and early release days for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools traditional-calendar schools, from the 2026-27 calendar the Board of Education approved on April 8, 2025. Many Matthews students attend CMS, depending on address. If your address is in Union County, see our UCPS page instead. Weather closings can change this list, and the district may use the makeup days listed at the bottom of this page.

Rest of fall 2026
Thanksgiving break
Wednesday, Nov 25 to Friday, Nov 27
Wednesday is a teacher workday, then the Thanksgiving break runs Thursday and Friday. No school for students on any of the three days.
Early release day
Wednesday, Dec 9
Students are dismissed early. Check your school for the dismissal time.
Winter break and January
Winter break
Monday, Dec 21 to Friday, Jan 1
No school for students for the two weeks of winter break. The next school day on the calendar is Monday, Jan 4.
Plan camps, childcare, and travel early. This is the longest break of the year.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Monday, Jan 18
Holiday. No school for students. This date is also the first makeup day on the calendar (see below).
End of second quarter and teacher workday
Thursday, Jan 21 and Friday, Jan 22
The second quarter ends Thursday, Jan 21. Friday, Jan 22 is a teacher workday with no school for students.
Late winter and spring
Teacher workday
Monday, Feb 15
No school for students, so it is a long weekend. This date is also the second makeup day on the calendar.
Early release day
Wednesday, Feb 24
Students are dismissed early. Check your school for the dismissal time.
Good Friday and spring break
Thursday, Mar 25 to Friday, Apr 2
The third quarter ends Wednesday, Mar 24. Thursday, Mar 25 is a teacher workday, Friday, Mar 26 is Good Friday, and spring break runs Monday, Mar 29 through Friday, Apr 2. No school for students for the whole stretch.
Another long break to plan around. Mar 25 is also the third makeup day on the calendar.
Early release day
Wednesday, Apr 28
Students are dismissed early. Check your school for the dismissal time.
Memorial Day
Monday, May 31
Holiday. No school for students.
End of the school year
Last day of school
Wednesday, Jun 9
The calendar marks Wednesday, June 9 as the last day of school and the end of the fourth quarter. Teacher workdays follow on June 10 and 11.
June 10 and 11 are the fourth and fifth makeup days, so check the district site if the school year was disrupted by weather.
Makeup days

The calendar lists five makeup days, to be used in this order if school is lost to emergency closures. The superintendent may waive up to four of them. A regularly updated list of closures and makeup days is on the district site.
